GREEN CHEMISTRY BREAKFAST
SPEAKER CHALLENGES HAVERHILL TO TAKE CHARGE
At a breakfast sponsored by the
Committee to elect John Michitson as Mayor, Dr. John Warner,
world renowned expert in Green Chemistry, challenged Haverhill
to be among the first to develop a program in Green Chemistry
that will attract 21st century industries , expand Haverhill's
economy and employ a large number people trained in this emerging
field.
Interested citizens, educators
and local business people attended this free breakfast presentation
at Maria's Galleria this morning. In his presentation, "Green
Chemistry as a Catalyst for Attracting Emerging Technology Industries
to Haverhill and the Region", Dr. Warner, President of the
Warner-Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry, explained the origin
of Green Chemistry and the commercial necessity for its practitioners.
Further, he suggested that a
leading edge "Demonstration Center" could establish
Haverhill as a desirable location for ventures in emerging technologies.
Those in attendance today would be the typical stakeholders and
would, ideally, spearhead the effort to bring the Center to Haverhill.
As the hub of the wheel it would make Haverhill a leader in this
new and exciting approach to industry and the future of manufacturing.
As a prime mover, the Center
would perform three roles 1) validate new products derived from
Green Chemistry, 2) test existing products for toxicity and 3)
perform community and regional outreach.
Dr. Warner received a standing
ovation and as one attendee said " the whole city should
have been there to listen".
